What factors that affect the design?

10 Key factors:

Client
Clear project objective which includes the finalized ideas and the cost effectiveness. Basically it means making decisions as a team.

Program
The functions of the buildings and its limitations such that the building fits what it was suppose to be there for.

Community Concerns
The architect must change the designs to fit the community, the residents etc.

Codes and Regulations
All the buildings codes that they need to follow in order that it is earthquake proof and how tall the building can be.

Context and Climate
Take the weather and nature in considerations. Temperature, humidity etc.

Site
The surroundings of the building. Geographical features, the space available. Water drainage.

Building technology
Technology of building stuff.

Sustainability
How long it can last itself in society and eco system. Lower environmental impacts.

Cost
We have to limit the cost of designing the building due to the budget. Most of the time the budgets are fixed and we cannot exceed the budget.

Design of a Recreational Centre

Who are the user of the recreation centre? (Decide on the Target Audience.)
SST Students and residents at Clementi (mostly elderly)

What are the needs of the user? (Decide on the facilities needed at the recreation centre.)
Handle bars for the elderly. Needs to keep fit and entertained. Outdoor cafe.

How do you think you can attract people to the recreation centre? What are the factors of considerations?
Few or none cafe in Clementi are outside. Needs of the students and residents. Both generations would appreciate the environment and facilities provided.

How would you make use of the space to build the recreation centre and why? (You need to consider the layout at different floors, inside and outside the building. Also consider the movement flow of the user. )
The shape of the building would be of a tree ~ “tree” stories high. A ball pit. Super cool playground ~ Super cool trampoline (bouncy castle) Foam. Cooking classes. Gardening classes/green house

What makes a good Architectural Design?

Good Architectural Designs are those which are aesthetic, artistic, social. It also should be suited for people from different age groups.

Genting, Malaysia’s Resort World Genting was first open in 1971. It has 6 hotels. The casino stretches across 3 hotels, 200 000 square feet. In 2004, the casino has one of the latest technology which is electronic table games and cashless gaming system for the slot machines. For the table games, there are 13 games to choose from, Blackjack, Poker etc. They even have slot machines and Keno. Keno is similar to 4D and Toto. There is even have their very own, Genting Theme Park which has over 40 rides to keep the children entertained. Not only does it have an outdoor theme park, Genting Highlands even offers an indoor theme park and water park. Last but not least, it has a shopping centre which carries more than 70 labels which is suited for all ages.

Singapore’s Resort World Sentosa was open in 2010. It has 6 hotels. It is one of the newest casino in the world, which contains a wide range of table games, slots and electronic games. It has Dale Chihuly’s glass sculptures and Singapore’s best chefs. Apart from the casino, Resort World Sentosa has a theme park, Universal Studios that can be enjoyed by the whole family, especially the children. There is a Marine Life Park and Maritime Xperiential Museum. Lastly, there is a shopping centre that has the finest fashion trends such as Victoria’s Secrets.

Las Vegas is a resort city that was established in 1905. The city itself is about 25 hotels that are meant for gambling. It has an indoor theme park, Adventuredome Theme Park which provides entertainment for the whole family. It has over 20 shopping malls. Las Vegas also has an art factory and an exhibition hall which showcases body specimens.

Between these 3 places, I would pick Singapore. This is because it is newly built. Therefore the attractions are all still new and in good working condition. On top of that, it would have the best design because of the advancement of technology.
